About Graphacon
Take deadweight loss. Most students can tell you what it is: trades that never happened. Most explanations stop there, and on its own that sentence shows you nothing. You can recite it and still have no idea who would have made those trades, or what they have to do with the triangle you just shaded in. The same is true of many other ideas in economics.
None of that is your teachers' fault. A textbook diagram is frozen. So is the whiteboard, and so is every past paper you sit. Economics is almost entirely about things moving, and every diagram we were given had already stopped.
So we built one that hasn't.
What we think
Graphs are for doing. Every diagram in Graphacon is live. You drag the line and watch where the equilibrium ends up, because nobody learns a shift by being shown one.
We explain in chains of reasons: why the price rose, what the rise caused, and why each step follows from the last. A conclusion on its own is a sentence you can repeat without believing it.
Nothing on screen moves except the economics. No streaks or badges. If it is competing with the diagram for your attention it should not be there.
Who is building it
- Eyad Al-Thwab, co-founder, AP lead
- and one other, who would rather not be named
Where it is going
More diagrams, and eventually every graph on the spec. Elasticity, PPF and Specific Tax stay free with no signup.
We are early. If a lesson taught you something badly, email help@graphacon.com. We are a small team, so it comes straight to us and we read all of it.
